LONDON
Five children, aged 12 and 14, have been arrested for the murder of an 80-year-old man who died after being attacked in a Leicestershire park, police said Tuesday.
The victim, who was walking his dog in Franklin Park, was seriously assaulted on Sunday and died in hospital Monday night.
Following the tragic incident, Leicestershire police said they launched a murder investigation and arrested five children — a boy and a girl, both 14, and one boy and two girls, aged 12.
The incident took place around 6.30 pm local time (1730GMT), close to the park entrance in Bramble Way, police said, adding that the victim, who was walking his dog, is believed to have been wearing a black jumper and grey jogging bottoms, was seriously assaulted by a group of young people.
The group left the scene before the arrival of emergency services.
“We still need people who were in the area to come forward if they have seen anything or have any information which could assist,” said Detective Inspector Emma Matts.
